McClanahan's is not your ordinary general store. We opened our doors in May 2007, and even though we are a fairly new location, we have found that our unique store is becoming quite well known. McClanahan's is located in the historic town of Bryson City, North Carolina; surrounded by the "outdoor capital" of the world and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We are also conveniently located ten miles west of the Cherokee Indian Reservation and about 20 miles east of the Nantahala Gorge.

Over the last 50 years, the store building itself has metamorphosized several times. It has housed the "Sossamon" furniture store and still has the original safe that was used. In early 2007, Rollon and Sherry Smith had the foresight and sometimes the "can we do that?" ideas to change a room-divided real estate office building into what is now McClanahan's. Rollon and his crew worked miracles by keeping the integrity of the building while using the skeleton of high ceilings, wood floors, and the original footprint of about 4,000 sq. ft. to create a shop that is open and friendly because "they just don't make 'em like they used to."
As our guests enter the store, the creaking sound of the original hardwood floors is heard as they look around at the amazing rock fireplace and all the huge tree trunks utilized in the decor of the shop. Buyers and browsers alike enjoy our neighborly atmosphere and a unique assortment of women's and men's clothing, jewelry, and accessories. We also offer interior decorating services and carry both practical and impractical "must-have" furniture and home decor for homes, cottages, or vacation homes.
Our ever-changing assortment represents the best merchandise that can be offered, all under one cozy roof! We try to inspire our guests by offering suggestions for their searches or allowing them to while away a lazy day and enjoy themselves.
The Smiths handpick all treasures at markets in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and basically, anywhere we might thin our folks have an interest. We strive to keep our prices competitive but also realistic for our area and economic times. We are continually re-inventing our inventory...keeping what works and weeding out what does not. We are not only an "outdoor" shop but stay current with styles and products...even "trendy". Home decor is usually suited to the client's taste whether it be modern or antiques. We can fully furnish a home or cabin or find just the right piece for a discerning gift.
The Smiths support local schools, and charitable groups, and commit 10-15% profits to help enable the "Grove" to work in surrounding communities and worldwide. Rollon and Sherry and McClanahan's team of helpers work hard to provide a warm and welcoming place for folks to enjoy great merchandise and also have a great time.
